Alfred Julius Nissen, son of Hans and Juline Nissen, was born July 29, 1885 in Jackson township, Shelby County, Iowa. He died at the Audubon hospital June 16, 1955 at the age of 69 years, ten months and eighteen days. Death was due to a complication of diseases after several years of poor health.
Mr Nissen was president of the Landmands National Bank at Kimballton for the past seven years and for 26 years was a member of the board of directors of the same bank. He also served as a board member of the Danish Mutual Fire Insurance association for 20 years and on the board of the Farm Service Co. for 15 years.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Bethlehem Lutheran church at Jacksonville and later united with the Immanual Lutheran church at Kimballton where he served on the church board for five years.
He was married to Elizabeth Topp, December 14, 1916 at the Bethany Lutheran church by Pastor H.L. Jensen. Three sons were born to this union, two of whom survive. A son Harold who lives on the home farm near Kimballton and Belmond, on a neighboring farm. A son Arnold, died in infancy.
Except for the past seven months, Mr Nissen had spent all his life on the same farm in Jackson township.
Surviving are his wife and the two sons, four grandchildren, three brothers, John of Harlan, Nis of Brayton and Holger of Kimballton.
Besides his infant son, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Chris.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 19, at the Immanual Lutheran church in Kimballton with the Rev. Holger Strandskov officiating. Earlier services were held at the Jensen Funeral Home. Burial was in the Kimballton cemetery.
