Reverend William Vincent Macchi, 71, was born in Concord on January 21, 1938 and died in Oakland on October 9, 2009.

His parents, the late Alfred Macchi and Winifred Haskin, raised him in a home full of love and gardens. He was surrounded by an extended family; The Buscaglias, Aiellos, Haskins, Lodi, Devincenzi and family friend and caregiver Bruce Hunter.

Father Bill was a graduate of Mount Diablo High School, Concord, University of San Francisco, and St. Patrick's Seminary. He was ordained a Catholic Priest for the Diocese of Oakland May 28, 1964. He served the Oakland Diocese in many different ministries including Director of Catholic Charities, where he was instrumental in founding The Handicapables Program. He was appointed Vicar General for the Diocese by Bishop John S. Cummins DD.

After many years as Vicar General, Father Bill realized his dream and was installed as Pastor at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Concord. Father Bill was Pastor for ten years until his diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease. He then retired to live in residence at Corpus Christi Church.

He enjoyed dinner groups, music, opera, reading theatre, traveling, and was an avid hiker. Father Bill was a devoted and faithful son, who honored his parents, shepherding them through their disabilities. He was a good friend, a good disciple and a good priest! "Remember when you leave this earth, you can take nothing you have received - only what you have given, a full heart enriched by honest service, sacrifice, and courage," St. Francis of Assisi.
