RESIDENT OF CASTRO VALLEY

Rosemary F. Dolan, born January 17, 1921, peacefully passed away in Hayward, CA on March 19, 2012 with her family by her side. She was 91 years old. She was the daughter of the late Fred J. and Nellie Flanagan and the sister of the late James Flanagan. Her father was an Assistant District Attorney of St. Lawrence County in New York State. Her grandfather, James Flanagan, was awarded the "Congressional Medal of Honor" in 1863 when he defended a wagon train against attack.

She grew up in Norfolk, New York and attended Potsdam State Teachers College, graduating in 1942 with a BS in Education. She also obtained a law degree from LaSalle University in 1975. Rosemary was very active in Democratic political party circles in New York State and was a State Delegate to the 1960 convention which nominated John F. Kennedy. She was a teacher all her life and taught at a number of schools in New York State and retired from the Massena School District in 1976. She was a member of the St. Lawrence Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.

Rosemary was married to Neil Mahoney (1955-1971) and Brendan Dolan (1980-200), two men who loved her dearly. Both of them preceded her in death. She is survived by her nephew, Patrick Devine and his family in Castro Valley, CA, her nieces Victoria Flanagan, Michelle Flanagan-Short, her nephew James Flanagan all from Virginia. She is also survived by several cousins in New York State and her sisters-in-law, Bridget Devine of County Derry, N. Ireland and Mary Hallinan of Castro Valley, CA.
