William A. Clark, 87, of 34 South Road, New Hartford, died Monday (Oct. 24) at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of Alice (Riche) Clark. He was born in Torrington May 15, 1907, son of the late Harry and Emma (Logan) Clark, and was a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Clark was the owner of several are new car dealerships, including County Motors and Litchfield Garage. He was also the busing contractor for the New Hartford School System, retiring 17 years ago. He was a charter member of The South End Volunteer Fire Department, a former member of The New Hartford Republican Town Committee, and a former member of New Hartford's Board of Finance. He was a Past Master of the Amos Beecher Lodge of New Hartford, a member of the Eureka Grange, a member of the Torrington Lodge of Elks No. 372 and was an Old Timer there, a member of the Torrington Lion's Club, and a member and on the Director's Staff of The Sphinx Temple, Hartford. He also belonged to Litchfield County Zem Zem Shrine Club.

In addition to his wife of 66 years he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Frank and Marilyn McCarty of New Hartford; two granddaughters, Meredith Crandall of Saratoga, N.Y., and Melissa McCarty of New Hartford; and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers, Louis Clark of Terryville, and Robert Clark of Litchfield; and two sisters, Evelyn Ruffenach of Burlington, and Vivian Hickey of New Hartford. He was predeceased by his son, William L. Clark.

A memorial service will be Saturday (Oct. 29) 11 a.m., at St. John's Episcopal Church, Pine Meadow. Burial will be at the convenience of the family, in Nepaug Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to a reception following the memorial service at the family home, 34 South Road, New Hartford. Memorial contributions can be made to The South End Volunteer Fire Department, or to The Shriners Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104. The Phalen Funeral Home, Torrington, has charge of arrangements.
