Henrietta "Betty" Elizabeth Altman, 88, Native Ocalean, Betty Orr, began eternal life on June 27, 2011. She was a 1941 graduate of Ocala High School, an active participant in planning reunions and socialized regularly with classmates, "The Forties Girls". Passionate about and committed to civic and community service, Betty was a Big Sister to girls at McPherson School for Girls, was selected "Mother of the Year" by Ocala High School Future Teachers of America, was awarded Lifetime Membership in Pioneer Garden Club for outstanding service as a Flower Show judge, annual Flower Show horticulture chairperson, served in many capacities for Home Tours and served on the Board of Directors. She presented educational programs on Florida wildflowers and butterflies to Garden Club circles including Gardenia Circle of which she was a member for 61 years. Betty was also an active member of the Ocala Woman's Club for 57 years, was a dedicated member of the General Robert Bullock Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Chapter No. 2420, for 26 years and a patriotic member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 0027. From 1951-1966, Betty was very involved in a variety of roles at Wyomina Park Elementary School, including holding PTA offices, Room Mother, Fall Carnival and Christmas float chairman. She enjoyed chaperoning many Safety Patrol and class field trips. Betty was an inspiring leader to Wyomina's Brownie and Girl Scout Troops, Cub Scout Den, and Boy Scout Pack. During this era and throughout her life Betty was a second mother to many who were drawn to her loving spirit. As a lifelong member of Grace Episcopal Church, Betty participated in the St. Mary's Chapter, was a Sunday and Bible School teacher, Choir and Acolyte Mother, Young Peoples Service League, and Episcopal Young Churchmen leader. Betty took great pride in serving her Church as an Alter Guild Team Leader and Guild member for decades. Betty is survived by loving husband of 67 years, Leonard, four devoted children, Wendy Staley (Roger), Richard Orr (Cheryl), William Orr (Martha), Shelley Trimm (David), 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, sister Margaret Baer, and niece Deana Antley. A celebration of the life of this gracious Southern lady will be held at Grace Episcopal Church on July 1 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a reception in the Parrish Hall. Private interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, donation in Betty's honor to Grace Episcopal Church, 503 S.E.
