PRINCEVILLE, IL - Donald R. Baughman, 79, of Princeville died at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at Proctor Hospital's emergency department in Peoria, IL.
Don was born on Feb. 9, 1930, in Canton, the son of Marion J. Baughman Sr. and Mildred Bryant Baughman Locher. He married Wilma "Willy" Wieland on Sept. 13, 1953, in Princeville.
Willy survives, along with one son, Dr. Douglas W. Baughman of Peoria; one brother-in-law, Robert Alltop of Carman, Ill.; two nieces, Carol Sue Peugh and Mary Lynn Coffin, both of Burlington, Iowa; and one nephew, Michael Alltop of Whiteland, Ind.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Marion J. Baughman Jr.; and one sister, Marthajean Alltop.
Don served in the U.S. Army for four years in both Japan and Korea during the Korean Conflict and was awarded The Purple Heart.
He worked as an engineer for the Santa Fe Railway for 40 years, retiring in 1993.
He was a 64-year member of the Princeville United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Princeville VFW Gold Star Post 1255, a member of the Historical Association of Princeville and a member of the Santa Fe Railroad Retirees Club. He was also a life member of the Princeville Masonic Lodge 360, AF&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria, Mohammed Temple, Shrine, and the Mohammed Directors Staff, participating in numerous out-of-state and local parades.
Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery, with military rites accorded.
