At Rest
Died at her home in Middlesex, Nov. 8, 1898, Mrs. Robert R. Brownell, aged 71 years. This was not an unexpected event, as for many weeks it had not been thought improbable that death might come at any time.
The deceased was united in marriage when about twenty-two years of age to Stephen Collens. Four happy years passed, when sorrow entered the home, and within six months Mrs. Brownell stood beside the graves of husband, a beautiful baby boy, and mother. While in this deep sorrow, a message comes, she hastens to the bereaved home of her brother, Case VanHouten, to share his trouble and care for his three motherless children, to whom she ever after took a mother's place until they went to homes of their own. Six years ago she became the wife of Robert R. Brownell and has since mastered each duty, brave, strong, reliant, forgetful of self, thoughtful of others. With noble christian courage-she duly tried to step in the footprints of the lowly Christ, and when death came he found her a triumphant victor. Her dying bed was softened not only by her Saviour whom she trusted and loved, but by the presence of her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Francisco, of California, her brother, Case VanHonten, of Michigan, and her adopted daughters. These were permitted for several weeks to minister to the one they loved.
