On 26 Jan 1945 Claude married Georgia L. Vest (19 Oct 1919/ 19 Jul 1998), a daughter of Joseph Thomas Vest and wife Izola Furrow.
Claude and Georgia had two sons: Joe Cephus Vest (22 Oct 1946, Summers County, W.Va/22 Nov 1989, Surry County, N.C.) and Hubert Jackson Vest (16 Jun 1951, W.Va./03 Aug 1991, White Oak Mountain).
Mr. Vest was a retired miner and a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. He died on 08 Dec 1961 in a Beckley, W.Va., hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Vest and sons Hubert and Joe are interred in the Simmons Cemetery, Mount View Road, W.Va.
Claude's half-sister Nina Vest Worley wrote a letter in March 1992 with remembrances of her brother. "Your Uncle Claude could play the harmonica, any string instrument. They used to gather at my Grandmother's (Malinda Cochran Vest, White Oak Mountain) and play at night (Saturday nite). How they could play. James Vest, Dad (Leonard Vest) and brothers were always there. Jim played guitar and John the accordian. (Dwight Quesenberry) would be there too. When I hear a train whistle blow, I can just hear Claude, play on the harmonica the train blues. I cry & cry -- your mother (Golda Vest Smith) could play string music. I loved for her to play the violin. Your great uncle Albert Vest, brother to my grandaddy Vest (Columbus Washington Vest) could make...violins and play them. Wonderful. Verna (her sister Verna Vest Bennett) could play strings too. I couldn't - I play just a little piano..."
