Gladys Eloise Thomas Allison, Ringgold, LA - Gladys Eloise Thomas Allison was born June 21, 1917, in Ringgold, Louisiana where, excluding the time she spent in college, she lived her entire life. She married Henry Clayton Allison of Saline, Louisiana in April of 1941 and raised a family with him in Ringgold. She was an esteemed teacher and librarian at Ringgold High School until her retirement in 1976, a long-term member of Delta Kappa Gamma, and a life-long member of the First Baptist Church of Ringgold. Mrs. Allison held a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Northwestern State University, a Master of Arts Degree from George Peabody University, and a Masters Plus 30 Certificate from Northwestern State University in her beloved fields of English and English Literature. She passed away peacefully on July 21, 2013 at the age of 96. Mrs. Allison was preceded in death by her father, Carey Allen Thomas who passed away in 1930, by her mother Mittie Batchelor Thomas, who passed away in 1976, by her husband Henry Clayton Allison who passed away in 1981, and by her brother Morris Batchelor Thomas who passed away in 1991. She is survived by her three sons, Carey Clayton Allison, M.D., and wife Jane of Sibley, John Thomas Allison, R.Ph., of Ringgold, and David Allen Allison, R.Ph., and wife Jane of Shreveport; by four grandchildren John Hunter Allison, Charlotte Ruth Allison Chibnick, Claire Elizabeth Allison, and Mary Grace Allison; by her sister Ruth Beatrice Thomas, Ph.D. (herself a teacher); and by four great grandchildren. Mrs. Allison's greatest interest was her teaching - in pursuing what she felt was her calling to enable her students to speak, understand, and write correct English, to appreciate some of the great authors of the English language, and in preparing her student to attend and to succeed in college. Mrs. Allison enjoyed her children and in her later years had become particularly fond of having philosophical/political discussions with them when they visited. In her spare time she enjoyed genealogy research and her small pecan orchard - especially in seeing the trees she herself had planted growing to maturity and fruition. She is at rest, but she will be remembered and missed by her family and by many of the hundreds of students whose lives she touched during a 30-year teaching career. Visitation will be held at Rockett Funeral Home in Ringgold on Monday, July 22, 2013, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Interment will follow a graveside ceremony at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Providence Cemetery in Ringgold, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that "in Memoriam" gifts to the First Baptist Church of Ringgold be considered. Condolences may be extended to the family at
