MATILDA GARDER FUNERAL RITES AT NORTH BRANCH
Mrs. Matilda Garder, 81, Passed Away Thursday Morning, July 21, 1955
Funeral services for Mrs. Matilda Garder, 81, of Petersburg, were conducted Saturday afternoon, July 23, at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran church at North Branch. The pastor, Rev. Woodrow Wilson, was in charge of the service.

A short prayer service was held at the Herse Funeral Home in Albion at 1:00 p.m. by Rev. Wilson. Rev. and Mrs. Kenneth Franzen of Zion Lutheran church at Albion sang "What a Friend We Have In Jesus" accompanied by Mrs. Wm. Kesshan.

A quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Limbo, Mrs. Eunice Johnson, and Lloyd Levos, furnished the music at the church services. They sang " Safe In The Arms of Jesus", "Have Thine Own Way, Lord". At the graveside service they sang "Shall We Meet Beyond the River"

Burial was in the North Branch cemetery. Pallbearers were Vernon Gladem, Edward Gladem, Alex Hestekind, Harold Thorberg, Wm. Score, and Reinert Levos.

Matilda Marie Funru, Daughter of Halvor and Mari Funru, was born at Koshkonong, Dane County, Wisconsin, on June 1, 1874. She passed away Thursday morning, July 21, 1955, after several months illness. She had reached the age of 81 years, 1 month, and 21 days.

She was baptized by Pastor Ottersen and the same year came with her parents to Wisner, Nebr. After several weeks stay in Wisner the family came to Boone county where Halvor Funru took up a homestead.

Mrs. Garder was confirmed in the Lutheran faith and has been a life-long member of Zion Lutheran church at North Branch.

In 1893 she was married to Hellek Garder and they made their home in the North Branch community. They were the parents of two children, a daughter who died in infancy, and a son, Herman.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1903 and by her infant daughter. She is survived by her son, Herman Garder, and his wife; three grandsons, Norman, Milan, and Harlan Garder; one brother, H. H. Funru of Albion; one nephew, Oscar Funru of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; two nieces, Mrs. S. J. Westby of Petersburg, and Mrs. Sophie Green of Albion; and one grandniece, Ruth Marily Green.
