Jan Pieter(Nickname Jan)de WAARD was born April 4th.1918 in HOLLAND.

In 1935,just 17 years old,and after a Medical Examination Jan signed for Service in The ROYAL DUTCH MARINE Corps and He was stationed for basic training at the Dutch Royal Marines Barracks in ROTTERDAM as a Royal Dutch Marine 3th.Class.

August 30th.1937 He embarked on a Minesweeper for a 3 years Service in the DUTCH EAST-INDIES.

By outbreak of the War against JAPAN in 1942,Jan embarked on the"Abraham Crijnse",a Minesweeper to AUSTRALIA and from there to the Dominion SURINAME in the DUTCH WEST- INDIES.

From there Jan was send to the USA,first to Camp Lejeune and then to Fort Knox to be trained for the Tanks of the DUTCH MARINES BRIGADE.

1945 He left for Service in the Royal Dutch Marines Brigade to The Dutch EAST-INDIES.

1947,after 10 years,Jan came back to His Homeland HOLLAND.

In the meantime He was promoted to Sergeant Royal Dutch Marines and worked as Drill Sergeant untill 1953 in the Royal Marines Barracks"Kamp Woestduin"in DOORN-HOLLAND.

In 1953 and 1954 Jan was stationed in The Dutch WEST INDIES.

Jan retired in 1973 as Sergeant-Major.

He was a REAL "IRON" Marine!

He died February 11th.1992 and was buried on the Cemetery "Oud-Kralingen"in ROTTERDAM-KRALINGEN-HOLLAND in an unnamed Grave #800,middle Part of Cemetery.
