Carol Bernice Patterson (Li-wa-ni), 81, of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2013 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Tribal rites will be held Friday evening at Carol Patterson's home. Burial will be 9:00 a.m. Saturday, at the Dance Ground Cemetery.

Carol was born April 10, 1932 in Pawnee, Oklahoma to Edward & Mary (Kakaque) Mack. She was full-blood Sac & Fox Indian and Fox Clan elder, and the only surviving child of the last direct decendent of Black Hawk. She was an artist, dancer, singer, and composer of Native American music. She traveled extensively and loved to spend time with her family. She was most beloved and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward & Mary Mack; brothers: Forest Pequano, Vernon Pequano, Frances Mack; and sister: Rena Pequano.

She is survived by her daughters: Muriel Wheeler, Jessica Patterson, and Valarie Patterson; son: Martin Patterson; grandchildren: Donovan Suwanapal, Edward Taylor, Jade Taylor, April Holder, Ronnie Wano, Jr., Adrian Wano, Tawnika Gonzales, Dakota Patterson, Garrett Wano and Mariah Patterson. 13 great-grandchildren; 2 nephews: Curtis Pequano & Michael Pequano; cousins: Pat Ward and H.D. Wood; as well as numerous adopted children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Iowa.
