Virginia was born on Jan 1, 1932, to Thoris and Russell Kirby. She grew up in Waukega, IL, attending public schools there. In 1949, she graduated with honors, from Waukegan Township High School.
In September, 1949, she began attending Northern Illinois State Teachers College in DeKalb, IL. She graduated in 1953, with honors.
In August of 1953, she married John M. Johnson. In September she returned to the Waukegan public school system — this time as a second grade teacher.
In June of 1954, she and her husband came to China Lake, CA and have resided in the area ever since.
]She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Sina, and her brother, Donald.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, John; daughter Stacie Tibbets of Tustin; son Michael and daughter-in-law Janet Johnson and grandchildren Brandon and Desiree Johnson of Ridgecrest, CA; son, James and daughter-in-law Marianne Johnson of Dubendorf, Switzerland; sister, Kathy and brother-in-law the Rev T.K. Cannon of Oak Park, IL; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Edward and Laverne Johnson of Kirkland, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews; grand nieces and nephews and close cousins.
Burial will take place in the Columbarium at Christ Episcopal Church in Waukegan, IL.
