Walker Lake Bulletin (Hawthorne, NV), 5/27/1885: Bishop Creek Cullings. ...Lyman Tuttle died at Cerro Gordo last Sunday, the 17th inst., of typhoid pneumonia. He was 64 years old and a native of Ohio, and by occupation, a civil engineer. Mr. Tuttle has been a resident of the county since its firt settlement, and was one of the most prominent in pushing and perfecting its organization; and was, if we are not mistaken, our first County Surveyor. Thus they pass away! The whistles of Cerro Cordo, whose notes were familiar sounds to him in the camp's palmy days - May they blow by the winds from the old hill, gently moan a peaceful requiem over his last resting place.
Note: Mr. Tuttle was the Mono County Surveyor in 1862, when the boom town of Aurora was believed to be in California. Mr. Tuttle surveyed many of the mining properties in that town and elsewhere in Mono County, California.
