Swede (Thayne R), was born May 13, 1925 in the Swedish town of 200, Assaria, KS and passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 9, 2007, four days before his 82nd birthday. He was 3rd of 7 children born to the town grocer, Joseph Olson and his school teacher wife, Clara Hiller. Swede worked with the newspaper distribution from the age of 6. He was educated in the Assaria schools and graduated from high school in Topeka, KS. He married Opal Rathert in Wichita, KS in 1947 and they moved to OKC in 1971. In 1949, they started Central News Express and shortly after, opened News Express, and then operated Supplement Carriers, Inc. and Central News Express, LLC. A caring, generous man, Swede operated a travel agency, various clubs, businesses and enterprises in OKC before and after Opal's death in 1996. He was particularly proud of his long association with Parade Magazine until his retirement in 2003. He was baptized and confirmed in the Assaria Luthern Church and has been a member of All Souls Church since 1971. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal; brother, Verlyn; and sister, Dorothy. He is survived by brothers, Carol and John; sisters, Margaret and Betty Ruth; and his loving companion of 11 years, Joy Harrison-Olson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Swede's name to The Jesus House, The City Rescue Mission, or Habitat for Humanity. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM on Thurs, May 17, 2007 in the Lady Chapel of All Souls Church, N.W. 63rd & Penn. Inurnment to follow in the Church Columbarium.
