W.M. (Bill) Avery, died peacefully in his home, January 14, 2003. He was born May 17, 1920, in Western Oklahoma. He graduated from Clinton High School and the University of Oklahoma, where he earned an L.L.B. degree. At OU, he was president of Delta Tau fraternity.
During World War II, he was a decorated Captain in the U.S. Army, serving under Gen. George Patton in the European Theater of Operation. Following the war, Bill founded and was president and CEO of Avery Laurence Corporation, an oil well equipment company headquartered in Singapore.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Lou; son, Robert C. Avery and wife, Kay, grandchildren, Lindsey and W.M. II, all of Eudora, Arkansas; son, Robert H. Wootten, wife Laura and grandchildren, Richard and Catherine Wooten of Des Moines, Iowa; daughter, Pam Wooten of Oklahoma City; cousins, Lorena Males and Glena Belle Crane of Cheyenne, Oklahoma, Ted Savage, Ada, Oklahoma and Marge Heeney, Topeka, Kansas.
Memorial services were held Friday, January 17, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at All Souls Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Music Program at All Souls Episcopal Church or The Council of Public Affairs.
