Arland Wallace Fox, age 61, died on December 10, 2007 at his residence in Evergreen Township, Arland Wallace Fox was born on June 21, 1946 in the township of Evergreen, the ninth of 10 children born to Bernard F. and Sarah (Spratford) Fox.
Arland attended Little Valley School until it closed and then graduated from Spooner High School in 1964. He attended Stout State University for one semester and then in 1966, along with his brother, Richard, enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corp. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1969. He returned to college on the G. I. Bill and was graduated from the University of Wisconsin – LaCrosse in 1973 with a double major in Psychology and Biology. He was married to Mary ZumBrunnen on August 14, 1971 in Onalaska, WI.
After graduation, he returned to the family farm and began raising turkeys for Jerome Foods and entered into a partnership with his brothers raising beef cows and growing corn and alfalfa until poor health forced him to retire. He and his brothers started Transport Services Unlimited as a freight and wood shavings company which later split off into two entities and he ran the shavings portion as A.B.C. Farms until the present.
In addition, Arland was the driving force behind the conception of the War Birds North Airport in 1991 and it's later development. In 1996, with the help of family members, he developed a parcel of vacant land in Trego into what is now Trego Travel Center.
Throughout his life, Arland struggled with numerous medical problems but it never dampened his vision and entrepreneurial spirit or his love and devotion to his family.
Arland is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Jeffery; his brothers, Ronald, Darryl, Jerome "Mitch" and Richard Fox and sisters, Vonnie Durand, Myra Fox, Diana Salmonson and Coralee Fox, along with many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger sister, Bernadine Fox.
Visitation for Arland Fox will be from 4 – 7 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2007 at the Dahl Funeral Home in Spooner. Private family services are being planned.
