Dora N. Benavidez, age 73, a longtime resident of Montezuma, N.M. passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the Alta Vista Regional Hospital following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Tucson, Ariz. on Dec. 3, 1935 to the late Bernardino Nunez and Benita C. Cañez Nunez.

She was united in marriage on Jan. 7, 1961 at Las Vegas, N.M. to Ramon M. Benavidez.

She retired in l989 from the Northeastern Regional Hospital now known as the Alta Vista Regional Hospital where she was employed as OB Tech.

She loved gardening, sewing, quilt making, singing with her husband, "Ramon" to entertain their family and friends.

A lifelong Catholic, she was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Bernandino and Benita Nunez; husband: Ramon M. Benavidez; daughter: Susan Benavidez; sons: Raymond Anthony Benavidez and John Timothy Benavidez and sister: Carmen Esprui.

She is survived by her daughters and son: Anna Benavidez of Las Vegas, N.M., Dori Benavidez and fiancee Christopher Quintana of Albuquerque, Jesse Benavidez of Montezuma, N.M., Maria Contreras and husband Cris of Albuquerque and Esperanza "Pompi" Solano and husband Dennis of Montezuma, N.M.; ten grandchildren; brothers: Frank Nunez and wife Gloria of Tucson, Arizona and Bernie Nunez of Las Vegas, N.M.; sisters: Betty Marinez and husband Richard and Natalie Nunez both of Tucson, Ariz.; brother-in-law: Jose Esprui of Tucson, Ariz.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Rosary devotional services were conducted on Sunday, May 17 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Monday, May 18 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Father C. John Brasher as celebrant. Interment follows at the Jesus, Maria Y Jose Cemetery in Montezuma with the following serving as casket bearers: Dennis Solano, Anthony Benavidez, Cris Contreras, Cody Benavidez, John Solano and Christain Quintana. Serving as honorary bearers are all her grandchildren.
