Detlev Georg Christoph Müller was born on October 4, 1808 AD in Schwartau, Hansestadt Lübeck, District of Eutin, Duchy of Schleswig, Kingdom of Prussia, Confederated States of the Rhine to Christian Georg Müller and Anna Wilhelmina (von Buchwald) Müller.
In 1830 AD Detley attended the University of Copenhagen studying medicine and surgery. In 1832 AD he continued his studies at the Frederick William University in Berlin. During his summer simester of 1834 AD he attended Rostock's University. He then attended the University of Kiel where he received his doctorate and diploma as a Doctor Medicina et Chirurgia from the Christian Albert University in May 1835 AD. That same year he moved to Lübeck, Prussia, German Confederation where he opened a lucrative practice as a doctor and surgeon.
In September 1846 AD he went to New York, United States of America where he learned to like the liberties the country provided. In January 1848 AD he returned to Europe to arrange his affairs for a return to America. In May 1848 AD he immigrated to America settling in Oyster Bay, Queens County, New York, United States of America. He married Mary Ann Charlotte Veitch in April 1850 AD in New York City, Manhattan Island, New York, United States of America and they settled in Oyster Bay, Queens County, New York, United States of America.
Sometime after arriving in the United States of America he Americanized his name to George Chrizstoph †Alt-Müller.
In 1853 AD Dr. Alt-Müller became a member of the Queens County Medical Society. In 1854 AD he received his Naturalization papers making him officially a U.S. citizen. In 1867 AD he was elected president of the Queens County Medical Society.
In the 1850 & 1870 AD Census he was listed as a physician. In the 1880 AD Census he was listed as a Doctor of Medicine.
Later after 1880 AD George and Mary, with the encouragement of many of their friends, they moved to Glen Cove, Nassau County, New York (Manhattan Island) County, New York, United States of America.\
George died on October 13, 1885 AD in Glen Cove at age 77 years and 9 days old. He was buried in Saint Paul's Episcopal Church Cemetery in Glen Cove, Nassau County, New York, United States of America
George and Mary had six children, (f) Anna Wilhelmine Alt-Müller (b. Jan 1852 AD - d. 1915 AD), (f) Charlotte Henrietta Alt-Müller (b. Nov 18, 1853 AD - d. Jan 2, 1922 AD), (f) Emilie S. Alt-Müller (b. Sep 19, 1855 AD - d. Mar 9, 1858 AD), (f) Mary Adele Alt-Müller (b. Dec 1857 AD - d. Dec 22, 1929 AD), (f) Helen Kate Alt-Müller (b. Aug 2, 1860 AD - d. Jun 19, 1937 AD), and (m) George H. J. Alt-Müller (b. Jan 12, 1863 AD - d. Jul 12, 1879 AD).

Special Note - † Alt was added to his surname as a prefix to distinguish it from others of the same surname. Some records dropped the umlaut (ü making it u) as the English language does not use the European umlaut.
