Greenville, SC - Bettie R. Albright, 80, died on May 19, 2011 after a long period of declining health. She is survived by her sisters, Bobbie J. Stewart of Port St. Lucie, Fl and Alice M. Albright and her partner Steven of Simpsonville, SC, Marge A. Shelton of Swannanoa, NC, Susan E. Albright, Oslo, Norway, and last, but not least, her beloved gray tabby cat Elvis. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Albright was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Lt. Col (ret.) Donald J. Albright, and her parents, Dr. James A. Stewart and Ruth B. Stewart.

Mrs. Albright was matriculated from the University of Florida with an undergraduate degree in psychology and earned a Master's Degree in Psychology from Florida State University. She taught high school biology in Ocala, Florida prior to attending graduate school. She was a 2nd Lt. in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1959, where she met her future husband.

Mrs. Albright began working for the Department of Social Services in Asheville, NC in 1968 and soon moved to the Department of Juvenile Justice in 1970. She worked for 16 years at the Juvenile Evaluation Center (JEC) in Swannanoa, NC, initially as a clinical psychologist and eventually as the assistant director. Her career culminated as the director of JEC, a position she retired from in December 1985. While working with the DJJ, Mrs. Albright was instrumental in designing and implementing an educational and social enrichment program that significantly reduced the recidivism rate in the juvenile delinquent population served by the DJJ training school program in North Carolina.

The family wishes to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude to the staff of The Palmettos, NHC Mauldin, Amedisys Hospice, Geriatric Resource Services, and Hillcrest Family Practice for their assistance and support throughout Bettie's illness.
