Eugene is the son of James V and Flora (Clark). He married Jan 12, 1881 Emma L LaFever with whom he had two daughters: Bertha Lea, born Feb 23 1882, and Maude Emma, born Nov 6 1885.

"Eugene U Bigelow, known throughout this section of the proprietor of Tobahanna Stock Farm, is a breeder of thoroughbred Jersey cattle. His estate, which is peculiarly adapted to stock-raising, is located in the town of Tyrone, Schuyler County, and comprises some two hundred acres. ... and on it Mr. Bigelow has about twenty head of fine cattle. He manufactures a very fine quality of butter, which is sold almost exclusively in Rochester and the larger cities. ... Mr. Bigelow takes an active part in all affairs of local interest, and is especially prominent in school matters, and is now serving as Trustee of his district. ... Socially he belongs to Lamoka Lodge No. 463. F. & A. M., and is Junior Warden of his lodge. Mr. Bigelow is both modest and unassuming, making friends of all with whom he comes in contact, and he is counted one of the progressive citizens of Schuyler County." "Eugene U. Bigelow, 91, died Monday in the home of his niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis W. Kleckler of Main street, Dundee. Born Jan. 8, 1856 [55], in Altay, he had lived in that vicinity until 30 years ago when he came to Dundee. After the death of his wife in 1926, he returned to Altay to live with his daughter, Mrs. Maude Porter. Just recently he came to the Kleckler home. He was a former member of the Tyrone Masonic Lodge for a long time served as patron of the Order of the Eastern Star at Dundee. Besides the daughter, Mrs. Porter, he leaves two grandsons, Frances Hares of Albany and George B. Hares Jr., of DeRuyter; a great-grandson and several nieces and nephews. Services will be in the Kleckler home on main street tomorrow 2 p. m. with the Rev. Benjamin Disbrow, pastor of the Wayne Baptist Church, officiating. Burial in Altay Cemetery."
