WELLSVILLE Edward G. Crone, Sr., 81, died 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at his home. He was the husband of the late Lois Ann (Leik) Crone, to whom he was married for 55 years.
He was born June 16, 1923 in Dover Township, a son of the late Wilson N. and Bessie T. (Ruppert) Crone.
Mr. Crone worked 43 years as an equipment operator for the Union of Operating Engineers Local 542. He was a member of Dover Bethany United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and a member of East Berlin VFW.
He is survived by a daughter, Debra Kay Crone of Red Lion; two sons, Merrill E. Crone and Edward G. Crone, Jr., both of Wellsville; three grandsons; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; three brothers, Bruce Crone of York, John Crone and Richard Crone, both of Dover; five sisters, Anita Lefever and Viola Kroft, both of York, Helen Stonesifer of Manchester, Ruthanna Smith of Seven Valleys, and Judy Howard of Dover. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet A. Border; three brothers, Albert Crone, Stewart Crone and Ralph Crone; and two sisters, Pauline Stiles and Alverta Hostetter.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral at 11 a.m. Friday at Dover Bethany United Methodist Church, 4510 Bull Road, Dover, and the viewings from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Emig Funeral Home, 47 N. Queen St., Dover, and 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will follow in Dover Bethany Cemetery where veteran's honors will be presented by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Officiating will be his pastors, the Rev. William Myers and the Rev. Gary Firster. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice of York County, 218 E. Market St., York, PA 17403.
