In February 1853, Archibald B. Medlan came to Young County. Archibald B. Medlan, Henry B. George, Phillip S. George and L.L. Williams move to Fort Belknap from Navarro County, Texas. They are joined by J. Sutton and William Marlin. They settle five miles below Fort Belknap.
In 1855, he located upon his farm. The first time he was in Texas was 1851 arriving in Cherokee County. In Navarro County, he made his first crop.
His parents were poor. His father was Scotch and his mother was English and of Virginia ancestors. His father died at the age of 26 years and his mother remarried James Brogdon.
A.B. Medlan marries Nancy Ellender "Ellie / Ellen" Timmons on 31 December 1867 at Cherokee County, Georgia. She died long before her parents. Ellen Medlan had no children.
A.B. Medlan marries Mrs. Elizabeth "Aunt Bettie" Rogers on 11 December 1879 at Young County, Texas.
A.B. Medlan died childless. He had one full sister and one full brother. The sister died and left one surviving heir, a niece, Mrs. Nancy Martin whose parents died before A.B. Medlan. A.B. Medlan had three half-brothers: P.H. Brogdon, Dow Brogdon and James Brogdon.
