A memorial service for Virginia Whitehouse Ayers, 84, of Moultrie, is at 10 a.m., Friday, July 1, 2011, at Cobb Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Dion Brown will officiate and interment is in Cobb Suncrest Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Ayers died Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at her home. Born Feb. 8, 1927 in Chatham, New Brunswick, Canada, she was the daughter of the late James C. Whitehouse and Euphemia J. McClean Whitehouse. She was a registered nurse and was associated with several hospitals in Canada, Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta and Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville. She was of the Lutheran faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Bernard Ayers; and one sister, Doe Thompson.
Survivors include one son, Mark Ayers and wife Marcia of Meigs; two sisters, Audrey Keating and husband Vince of Canada and Marina Spicer of Dayton, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Cherie Orem and husband Gordon of Orem, Utah, Loretta Ayers of Piedmont, S.C.; five grandchildren, Brittni Pannell, Sam Ayers, David Ayers, Kaylyn Ayres and Tanner Ayers; two great-grandchildren, Bryon Pannell and Sara Kate Pannell; and a special friend, Carol Norman. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service on Friday at Cobb Funeral Chapel.
