Ariel Gilbert, 10, of Yuma, died Nov. 17, 2010, in San Diego.
She was born June 30, 2000, and was a student.
A wake will be 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Yuma Mortuary Chapel, with rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. followed by tribal rites at Quechan Big House. Cremation will be 5 a.m. Wednesday at Quechan Cemetery.
Ariel Aaryn Gilbert was a member of the Quechan Indian Tribe, born on June 30, 2000 and called to heaven on November 17, 2010 at the Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego, CA. Ariel is a former student of San Pasqual Elementary School in Winterhaven, CA and John Marshall Elementary School in Glendale, CA. She has been battling Bone Cancer since June of 2008 at Phoenix Children's Hospital, Rady Children's Hospital, and the City of Hope Cancer Treatment Center in Los Angeles, CA.
Ariel was an inspiring actor/director, fashion designer, artist, and animal lover. She was a member of the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association where she adopted two orangutans. Ariel loved spending her time drawing, scrapbooking, watching movie, and anything having to do with monkeys or the color pink.
Ariel is survived by her mother, RoseAna Williams; sisters, Jodeci Williams and Valencia Gilbert; great-grandmother, Ursula Mendez; great-aunt, Frances Williams; aunt, Lanisha (Joseph Aragon) Romero all of the Ft. Yuma Reservation, and grandfather, Arthur (Susan) Vasquez; aunt, Elisa Vasquez; uncle, Arthur Vasquez Jr. all of Lakeside, CA; great-aunt, Lisa (Gayland) Hade of Seattle, WA; father, Aaron Gilbert; brother, Eddie Amador; grandfather, Gregg Gilbert Sr.; grandmother, Millie Gilbert; uncles, Gregg (Frances) Gilbert Jr., Michael Gilbert and Gary Gilbert all of the Ft. Yuma Reservation; aunt, Annette Quiroz of Chandler , AZ.
She is preceded in death by her maternal great-great-grandmother, Rosalie Wheeler; great-uncle, Cryil Parker; great-aunt, Valerie Williams; grandmother, Charlene Williams; aunt, Ceria Romero; uncle, Alfonso Romero Jr.; Paternal great-great-grandmother, Virginia Yeager; great-grandparents Asbury and Mildred Gilbert; great uncle, Darryl Gilbert and uncle, Delano Quiroz.
Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Parish 10:00am Tuesday, November 23, 2010 with Tribal Rites to follow immediately after on the Ft. Yuma Reservation. Cremation is scheduled for 5:00am Wednesday, November 24, 2010.
