ZELVA BENNETT, 99, passed away at 11:12 a.m. Monday, June 7, 2010, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Tamms.
Mrs. Bennett was born June 13, 1910 in Olive Branch, the daughter of the late Amos Dunning and Estella (Cartner) Dunning.
Mrs. Bennett was a member of Rock Springs Freewill Baptist Church in Thebes, and was a member of the Pulaski-Alexander Homemakers Extension Unit, and was a retired nurse from the Chaffee General Hospital in Chaffee, Mo.
Mrs. Bennett would have celebrated her 100th birthday Sunday, June 13, 2010.
She was one of 12 siblings.
Mrs. Bennett was preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Dick" H. Bennett on Dec. 4, 1988; two daughters, Juanita Dowdy and Marilyn Bennett; and a son, Dwayne Bennett.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Naomi and Tom Mann of Tamms; a sister, Doris Jennings of Edwardsville; 10 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 32 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2010, in Jones Funeral Home in Tamms, with the Rev. Dennis Clark officiating. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
