Bozeman Daily Chronicle (MT) - April 1, 2004

Arnold Blanksma, 70, passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at his home on Highline Road. He entered his heavenly home surrounded by his wife and four daughters. Arnie was born on the Carrot Farm near Manhattan on Sept. 22, 1933, to Arie and Mae (Braaksma) Blanksma. He started working on a farm when he was 13, and moved to the family farm in 1951 where he lived until his death.

He married Henriette Danhof in Bozeman on Feb. 19, 1953.

In 1956, he started a dairy and continued dairying for 36 years. Failing health forced him to retire from the dairy in 1987, after which he raised a small herd of registered Angus cattle.

Arnie was a lifetime member of First Christian Reformed Church, and a member of the American Angus Association. He loved horseback riding and rode in the 1989 Montana Centennial Cattle Drive. He also enjoyed reading Native American and Western history; and he loved his daughters and grandchildren. Arnie was a dedicated husband, father and friend. He enjoyed helping others and was well-known for his quick wit and unique sense of humor. His favorite saying was, "It will all come out in the wash."

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Craig Braaksma; and infant sister, Annette.

Arnie is survived by his wife, Henriette; daughters, Karen (Doug) Braaksma; Cindy (Louis) Kamps; Donna (Bruce) LaRue; Greta (Terry) Mehling; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister, Betty (John) Dykman; brother, Sid (Marlene) Blanksma; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 1.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 2, in Churchill Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Manhattan Christian Reformed Church.
