Fourth of seven children of August Arndt and Catherine Barlage Arndt. Married Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Ecklund August 13th, 1898 (see accompanying wedding photo). August and Lizzie lived in various places in North Dakota including Newburg, Maxbass and Foxholm, ND. all in Bottineau County near the Canadian border. August managed grain elevators in each of these towns. As of June, 1956 Lizzie was living in Kallispell, MT. (from Norwood Times newspaper). They had 8 children: Milton b. 1899, Lloyd b. 1901, Louise b. 1902, George b. 1904, J. Henry b. 1907, Esther b. 1909, Tressa b. 1915 and Marion b. 1917. Together, Tressa and Marion were lovingly referred to as "Tom and Jerry".
