LAFAYETTE, Minn. - Alma Carlson, 78, of Lafayette, Minn., died Wednesday, January 8, 1997 at the New Ulm Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at Clear Lake Baptist Church in rural Gibbon, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

She is survived by daughters Juene Carlson-Rose and her husband Gilbert of New Ulm, Darlene Schmidt and her husband Darrel of Lafayette, and Joyce Glass and her husband Daniel of St. Paul; grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren, sisters Verla Price of Pardeville, Wisconsin, Juanita Carlson of Minneapolis, Beulah Hodgman of San Antonio, Texas, Juene Kueffe and her husband Alvin of Portage, Wisconsin, Doris Scott of Madison, Wisconsin, and Carolyn Torlanto and her husband John of Rhode Island; brothers Harley Beahm and his wife Liz of Tucson, Arizona, Lawrence Beahm and his wife Mary of Montello, Wisconsin; sisters in law Bernice Beahm of Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Delphin Carlson in 1970, brothers Henry and Merlyn, and grandchildren Amber and Brendt.

She was born October 1, 1918 in Portage, Wisconsin, to Herbert L. and Susie (Fuller) Beahm. She married Delphin Carlson on November 30, 1933 in Portage, Wisconsin. After marriage they farmed in the New Ulm and Gibbon areas before moving to Lafayette in 1964. After the death of her husband she continued to operate the family businesses. She was a World Poet and received the Golden Poet Award given by the National Poet Society in 1986. This was presented in Florida on National television. She continued with her poetry until 1990. She was a member of Clear Lake Baptist Church serving as a past president, secretary and a Sunday school teacher. She was an avid volunteer for many community activities. She had been hospitalized for the past eight days. Memorials are preferred to the Clear Lake Baptist Church.
