Cornelia "Connie" (Ryan) Blanchard, 82, of Ticonderoga passed away Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born in Westport,May 21, 1927, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Frances Marvel (Ferrel) Ryan.

Connie was a graduate of Westport Central School, Class of 1944.She also graduated from Manhattanville College School of Nursing in 1947 and Plattsburgh State Collegeas a school nurse/teacher in 1948.

While working as a school nurse at Ticonderoga Central School, she met her future husband, Paul S. Blanchard, whom she married on Aug. 16, 1952, at St. Philip Neri Church in Westport.

In addition to being one of the first lay teachers at St. Mary's School in Ticonderoga, she also taught at Ticonderoga Central School.Connie was also school nurse at Hague Central School and Crown Point Central School, working both jobs at once for many years.She then became the first school nurse for the newly established Head Start Program in the 1980s. During these years, she also worked as a private duty nurse and did some part-time work at Moses-Ludington Hospital.

After retiring, Connie and Paul enjoyed traveling to see relatives and friends and taking cruises.She also volunteered at St. Mary's School for many years.

She loved spending summers at the family camp in Westport. One of her biggest joys in life was the time she spent with family at camp. Family included her sister and two brothers and their families, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and anyone who happened to stop by to say hello. She especially looked forward to our annual Memorial Day weekend party in Westport to start the summer off and also the end of summer Labor Day gathering at Murphy's Camp at Hoel Pond in Saranac Lake.

Her husband, Paul S. Blanchard, predeceased her in 1996. She was also predeceased by a granddaughter, Amy Jo Blanchard, who died at birth, in 1981.

Survivors include three sons, John P. Blanchard and his wife, Wanita of Ticonderoga, and their children, Carley Blanchard, Christopher Blanchard and Crissy Lawrence, Thomas W. Blanchard of Ticonderoga and Paul J. Blanchard and his wife, Gia of Memphis, Tenn., and their children, Maria Blanchard and Michael Blanchard; one daughter, Mary Griffin, and her husband, Tim of Menomonee Falls, Wis., and their son, Jeff Griffin; one sister, Elizabeth Bryant, and her husband, William of Port Henry; and two brothers, Jack F. Ryan and his companion, Ruth Coughlin of Clifton Park, and James Ryan and his wife, Ann of Westport and Land-O-Lakes, Fla. She is also survived by one great-grandchild, David T. LaPointe; many nieces and nephews; and one very special and true friend, Betty Peria.
