Obituary: SOUTHWICK Leona Bertha (Dewhurst) Benson, 82, of Southwick, died Thursday, September 11, 2008 in Noble Hospital, Westfield. She was born in New Kingston, NY on November 11, 1925, daughter of the late Howard E. and Wilma B. (Yaple) Dewhurst, moving to Southwick in 1945. Leona was a 1945 graduate of Westfield High School and worked in the family business, Dewhurst Farm Supply of Southwick as a clerk. She also worked as a home health aide and as a telephone operator. Leona was a member of the Southwick Congregational Church. She leaves two nieces Nancy Frisbie of Becket, Kathy Flanders of Washington State, two nephews, Harry Cole of Washington State and Williams Cairns of Orlando, Florida and her close friends, Ann Kempf, Clayton Cigal Sr.,Kathy and John Zanolli all of Southwick and Thelma Flynn of West Suffield, CT. Leona was predeceased by a brother, William E. Dewhurst and two sisters Marie Bunting and Geraldine Misevich. The funeral will be Monday September 15, 2008 at 2 PM at Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad St. Westfield. Burial will be at a later date in New Kingston Valley Cemetery, in New Kingston, NY. A calling hour will precede the service from 1-2 PM at the funeral home.
