• GENE AUTRY -- Services for Marion Francis Dinwiddie, 83, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church with Lincoln Stevenson officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Born Jan. 31, 1918, in Berwyn to John and Cornelia Cohee Dinwiddie, he died Oct. 26, 2001, in a local hospital following a short illness. He was preceded in death by 11 siblings, Carl, Alma, Theodore, Thelma, Sidney, Elsworth, Clifford, Fleetwood, Elswood, John Milton and Alphonso "Chut."
He married Florida A. Harvey in July 1967 in Denver.
Dinwiddie was a 1938 graduate of Lincoln High School. He attended Virginia State College and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an employee of the Denver Mint Firm for six years, Denver Transit System for 11 years and operated Marion's Lounge in Denver for 27 years. He returned to Carter County 14 years ago. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Marion Dinwiddie Jr., Moore; three daughters, Ida Lee Durant, San Marcos, Texas, Kay Briscoe, Denver, and Marva Watkins, Kansas City, Mo.; a stepson, Michael Kaley, Carlston, Texas; two stepdaughters, Terri Kaley, Oakland, Calif., and Rosalind Simon, Newport News, Va.; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Bearers are Dwayne Briscoe, Michael Dinwiddie, Leon Williams, Shannon Watkins, Mark Nicholson, Willie Shirley and John Johnson.
Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. today at Kirk-Dawson-Dillard Funeral Home.
