1850 US Census, Dover, Dutchess, New York lists Edwin (22 yrs) living with father, mother, 7 sisters, 2 brothers. Occupation, carpenter.
Civil War: Company C, 7th California Infantry
Edwin Agard was born in Dutchess County, New York, in April 1830. He was still living at the home of his parents in Dutchess County in 1850 (1850 US Census). He relocated to California where he married Mary Anne Carroll about 1857 and settled at Jackson in Amador County (1860 US Census). His wife died at Jackson July 9, 1860, a month after giving birth to their second child. Mary was born in Ireland in 1838. Edwin enlisted as a sergeant at Jackson October 1, 1864, and was mustered into Company C, 7th California Infantry, October 26. Sergeant Agard was posted to Fort Yuma, California, where he was mustered out March 25, 1865. After the war he returned to Jackson where he died September 17, 1869, at the age of 39 years and 5 months.
