James Helba, 87, of Roanoke, Va., and formerly of Weirton, W.Va., died Saturday, December 30, 2006 at home. He was born in McDonald, Pa. on November 8, 1919, to the late Anna Pulice Helba and Alex Helba. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Doris Simmons Helba who died October 2005; brothers, Charles and John Helba; sister, Mary Bolock. He was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Weirton, W.Va., and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was retired as Editor of the Star Beacon, Ashtabula, Ohio. Survivors include four sisters, Ann Tascione, Girard, Ohio, Sophie Kansa, Weirton, W.Va., Helen Furda and her husband Bill, Weirton, W.Va., and Julie Czaruk, Cleveland, Ohio. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2007 at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 604 Colliers Way, Weirton, W.Va., with Father Theodore Shomsky officiating. Burial to follow at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Weirton, W.Va. with miliary service by Weirton Honor Guard and American Legion Post No. 10.
