Birth: 1818
Death: 1873

The husband of Martha Mutzabaugh and father of John H. (b. 1842), Angeline (b. 1846), William L. (b. 1849), James (b. 1852), and Daniel (b. 1853), in 1860, he was a peddler living in Penn Township, Perry County and was apparently widowed before 1860. He stood 5' 5" tall and had brown hair and gray eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted as a substitute and mustered into federal service at Carlisle October 7, 1864, as a private with Co. G, 149th Pennsylvania Infantry and was honorably discharged with his company June 24, 1865.

Daniel Mutzabaugh's birth year almost certainly was earlier than 1818. The 1850 census has an 1815 birth year, the 1860 census says 1812, and he said he was 46 when he enlisted, implying a birth year of 1817. If he honestly gave his age as 46, he nonetheless was too old by law to have enlisted, because the upper age limit was 45.
