"AGED 40 YEARS" 1st husband of Nancy (Dodson)Devenport. Settled on Sec 11, south of North Salem where the cemetery is located on August 25, 1828. Was the father of George R. Devenport, whose children David S., Nancy E., and William S. are buried in this cemetery.
In one of the first wills recorded in Hendricks County (9-30-1839), William gave his estate to his wife and his seven current children and the one on the way.
On shared stone with wife: "Our father and/ mother here lies/ under ground/ The dearest/ friends we ever/ found/ But through the/ Lord's unbounded/ love/ We'll meet again/ in realms above"
