He was born in Denver, Colorado on Dec. 8, 1962, to the late Eddie Rivera and Helen Armijo Rivera, who survives him.
He was employed at the Behavioral Health Institute as a psych tech for the past two years.
He enjoyed cooking, carpentry, gardening, fishing, camping, and playing video games. He was an avid Denver Broncos fan and was known to be a jokester and he was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone.
A lifelong Catholic, he was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church.
He was preceded in death by his father: Eddie Rivera; brother: Eddie Rivera Jr.; sister: Kathleen Rivera; and his son and daughter: Donald and Serena Rivera.
He is survived by his children: Pete Rivera of Albuquerque, Julian Jr. Rivera of Las Vegas, Michael and Gilbert Rivera of California, Jacob Rivera and Mariah Rivera both of Las Vegas; companion and mother of Jacob and Mariah: Isabel Mejillas of Las Vegas; mother: Helen Rivera of Las Vegas; brother: Richard Rivera of Las Vegas; sisters: Lou Ann Romero and husband Arthur of Bernal, and Liz Rivera of Albuquerque; grandmother: Maria Lucy Guzman; mother-in-law: Bernice Patsy Lucero both of Los Vigiles; sisters-in-law: Edwina Lucero and husband Pete of Sapello, and Alberta Romero and husband Andrew; brother-in-law: Francisco Mejilla, all of Los Vigiles; mother of Pete and Julian: Shirley Trujillo of Las Vegas; aunt: Marie Castillo and husband John of Denver; uncle: Henry Rivera and wife Cecilia of Arvada; nephews and nieces: Adrian and Isaac, Brandon, Annette, Katrina, Olivia, Angelica, Destiny, Curtis, Alexis, and Travis; compadres: Joe and Nancy Encinias of Denver; special friend: Manuel Rios of Las Vegas; and numerous other relatives and many friends.
Rosary devotional services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Church with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant. Interment will follow at the Los Vigiles Cemetery with the following serving as casket bearers: Julian Jr. Rivera, Pete Rivera, Jacob Rivera, Francisco Mejillas, Pete Lucero, and Andrew Romero. Serving as honorary bearers will be Manuel Rios, Joe Encinias, and all of his nieces and nephews.
