J.C. McWhorter Funeral is Held

Final rites for John C. McWhorter, 67, of Esom Hill, Ga., Rt. 1, were conducted at 1 o’clock this afternoon at the Mars Hill Church.

Mr. McWhorter, a lifelong resident of Cleburne County, died at his home Friday afternoon following a long illness.

He was a civic and farm leader and an active Sacred harp music teacher and singer all his life.

Services were conducted by Elder Ira Patty and burial was in the old Buttram Cemetery near his home.

Mr. McWhorter’s survivors include his wife, Mrs. Essie McWhorter, four sons, Arthur and Leo McWhorter, Esom Hill, Rt. 1; Luther, College Park, Ga., and Emmett McWhorter, Tallapoosa, Ga.; one daughter, Miss Stella McWhorter, Esom Hill, Rt. 1; two brothers, Walter, of Heflin, and Millard McWhorter, Birmingham; three sisters, Mrs. Mollie Morris, Anniston, Rt. 3; Mrs. Nannie Pruett, Cedartown, Ga., and Mrs. Ludie Lambert, Bessemer; and 16 grandchildren.
