RAMAH — Services for Fred B. Ashley, 83, will be 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 10, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ramah. Freddie Lee will officiate. Burial will be in Ashley's residence, Timberlake Ranch.
Ashley died Jan. 5, 2011, in Gallup. He was born Aug. 4, 1927, in Burntwater, into the Zuni People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.
Ashley moved from Burntwater in 1979 to Ramah where he established a home for his family. Throughout his life he worked with the railroad, was a uranium miner, silversmith, carpenter, driller for an oil company and road construction. He enjoyed watching sports, horseback riding, hunting, being with his grandchildren, building things and maintaining his cornfield.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Ashley; sons, Ervin Ashley, Michael Ashley, Marvin Ashley, Matthew Ashley; daughters, Sharon Ashley, Melissa Ashley, Cheryl Ashley, Carole Ashley; parents, White Whisker's Son, Alin Tso ha Bah Ashley; sister, Marie Bahe; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Ashley was preceded in death by Leo Ashley.
Pallbearers will be immediate family.
Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
