George Haliday Simpson was born June 12, 1894 at Milford Station, Hants County, Nova Scotia, Canada. He was the son of Dorothy Campbell and Joseph Simpson who at the time of his death, lived at Amherst, Nova Scotia. George had one brother, Harry S. Simpson, and a sister, Eva Hovey (nee Simpson).
On December 17, 1915, George enlisted with the Canadian Army at Amherst.(Service Number: 715299) He served with the Canadian Infantry (New Brunswick Regiment), 26th Battalion during the First World War. Although the Canadian Virtual War Memorial states he was 24 years old when he was killed in action in France, his headstone states 23 years.
George is commemorated on Page 500 of the First World War Book of Remembrance. He is buried in the Ligny-St. Flochel British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.
