Margie Rumer Bacon, 90, of Mardela Springs passed away at Genesis Rehabilitation Center in Salisbury on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010, after a brief illness.
One of the children of Anna Marie (Ostrem) and Isaac David Rumer, Margie was born March 16, 1921, in Portland, Ore. The family moved a short time later to Klamath Falls, Ore.
She met the love of her life, Edgar "Eddie" Clifton Bacon Jr., during World War II. After the end of the war they were married, and moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, where Eddie was from.
Margie worked for Union Trust Bank as a loan officer for more than 25 years. She retired in the early '80s. She also owned and ran a small store and sandwich counter, Mini Mart, with her husband in Mardela Springs for several years.
She loved her children and grandchildren, reading, cross stitch and crossword puzzles. She will be missed by all.
Her beloved Eddie passed away in August 1987. Margie continued to live in Mardela Springs with her daughter, Susan Anne Bacon.
In addition to Susan, she is survived by a son, Steven W. Bacon and his wife, Joyce, of Salisbury; granddaughters, Laura Owens of Mardela Springs, Amy Dummer and her husband, Fred, of Carnation, Wash.; a grandson, Scott Fisher of Eden; four great-grandchildren, Calvin and Olivia Dummer of Carnation and Elaina and Luke Owens of Mardela Springs. She is also survived by a sister, Peggy Lou Jakubowski of Klamath Falls; sisters-in-law, Patricia Bacon of Mardela Springs, Betty Galeone of Pocomoke City and Charlotte Richards and her husband, Jack, of Auburndale, Fla; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her beloved husband, Edgar Bacon, Margie was preceded in death by her sisters, Ardyce Woodard, Bessie Seever, Ruth Rumer and Lois Evans; and brothers-in-law, William "Sugie" Bacon and Michael Galeone.
A graveside funeral service will be held in Mardela Memorial Cemetery on Thursday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Paul Sherwood will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Mardela Springs Volunteer Fire Company, PO Box 299, Mardela Springs, Md. 21837; or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 11350 McCormick Road, Executive Plaza 3, Suite 100, Hunt Valley, Md. 21031.
