Mary Eslinda "Mrs. B" Benavídez, age 85, a lifetime resident of Las Vegas, New Mexico passed away on Monday, October 29, 2012 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mary Eslinda was born on February 6, 1927 in Las Vegas, New Mexico to the late Rafael Alires and Sara Alires.
Mary Eslinda worked for the San Miguel Senior Citizens as a receptionist for seven years also worked for Henry Blattman. Mary Eslinda was a loving grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Mary Eslinda enjoyed playing pool, cooking, spending time with family and friends. Mary Eslinda was very outgoing. A Catholic and attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
Mary Eslinda was preceded in death by her parents, Rafael and Sara Alires, husband, José B. Benavídez, sons, David Durán, Lawrence "Tomate" Durán and Rudy "Roots" Durán, grandsons, Kevin "Keebler" Durán and Mark Martínez, sisters, Marie Sandoval, Ann Soto and Sophie Romo and brother, José Alires.
Mary Eslinda is survived by her daughters, Sally Maés and her husband, John of Denver, CO, Nancy Ortiz and her husband, Leroy of Pueblo, CO, Marcella Palomino and Theresa, Madrid both of Las Vegas, NM, JoAnn Durán and Patricia Leonard both of Albuquerque, NM, thirty-seven grandchildren, fifty-nine great-grandchildren and twenty-eight great-great-grandchildren, sister, Mary Valdéz of Pueblo, CO, brother, Sam Alries and his wife, Cruzita of Las Vegas, NM, daughter-in-law, Sharon Durán of Las Vegas, NM, brother-in-law, Walter Soto of Pueblo, CO and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Rosary services will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Las Vegas, NM. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 2, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father George V, Salazar as celebrant. Interment will follow at the St. Anthony's Cemetery in Las Vegas, NM with the following serving as casket bearers, Johnny Maés, Kenneth Madrid, Lucas Durán, Luís Mendoza, Steve Ortiz, Tim Alires, Jesus Palomino and Ruben Estrada. Serving as honorary bearers will be the remaining grandchildren.
