Dean E. Cochran, 72, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and formerly of Fort Dodge, passed away on June 1, 2007, in Colorado Springs.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 8th at 11 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Callender with the Rev. Kent Wallace officiating. Burial will be in the Callender Cemetery with a flag presentation conducted by the Callender American Legion Post 592. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the services at the church. The Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family.

Survivors include his son Ben Larry Cochran of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister Constance Sobel of Pasadena, Calif.; and a nephew Eric Butler of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents Laurence J. and Marie (Evanson) Cochran.

Dean Edward Cochran was born on Nov. 12, 1934, in Fort Dodge. He attended schools here graduating from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1954, and then received his Associates Degree from Iowa Central Community College. Dean later attended the Senior NCO Academy in Texas. In 1961, he enlisted with the U.S. Air Force, in the Security Police Division, at various Air Force Base locations, including; Japan, Johnson Island, Red Bluffs, Calif., Hanscom AFB in Bedford, Mass., and Cheyenne Mountain NORAD Combat Operations Center in Colorado. Dean received many medals for the services he performed during his twenty-two years with the United States Air Force. Upon his retirement and honorable discharge he was awarded an Air Force Commendation Medal and a Certificate of Appreciation. His main interests were sports as he was on the football and baseball teams in high school and junior college. Dean contributed to youth by serving as a baseball coach. He was also a member of the Blue and Silver Club, which supports athletic programs in the United States Air Force Academy. A good friend describes Dean as a great man who, with his kindness and compassion, has made a positive impact on others.
