Robert Reeves Allen

Hazelwood - Born on Nov. 25, 1917, Robert Reeves Allen, 86, of Hazelwood, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004.

A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Robert Taylor Allen and late Lettie Clark Allen. He retired from A.C. Lawrence Leather Company with 28 years of service. He was a member of Hazelwood Baptist Church. Reeves loved his big family. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a man who enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to make people laugh with his funny jokes and tall tales.

He enjoyed coon hunting, fishing and camping, especially at Jack Rabbit Campground. He had a great passion for music-bluegrass and gospel, which he passed on to his children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Avery, Emery, Melvin and Franklin Allen; two sisters, Tilda Brown and Louise Allen; and one son, Michael David Allen.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Irene Trantham Allen; six sons, John Allen of Hazelwood, Robert Allen of Sylva and Melvin, Albert, Bobby Gene and Gary Allen, all of Waynesville; four daughters, Frances Thomson of Redondo Beach, Calif., Mary Shook of Hazelwood, Shelia Rohrer of Candler and Linda Watson of Waynesville; 25 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; three half-brothers, Raymond, John Lewis and Roger Allen; and four half-sisters, Lucille Cordova, Lorrena Nallion, Debbie Hensley, and Elaine Rogers.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Rev. Jack Scott officiating. Family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home at 117 Hazelwood Ave. Burial will follow the service at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park with grandsons, Johnny, Stephen, Scotty, Taylor, Randy and Brandon Allen, Jeff Conard, Anthony Nix, and Chad and Brad Watson serving as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Haywood County, 262 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
