Birth: Nov. 6, 1856
South Carolina, USA
Death: Jan. 17, 1942
Dillon County
South Carolina, USA

Melvina (Conner/Connor) Brewer was a daughter of Richard Duccery "Duck" Conner and his wife, Ada (Powers) Conner. Melvina married John M. Brewer, a son of Asa L. Brewer and his wife, Martha. Clues indicate Martha was probably a Wallace, but no hard proof found.

Melvina and John M. Brewer had four children. They were:

1. Asa L. Brewer, b. 5 Mar 1888 d. 14 Sep 1955, buried Bear Swamp Baptist Church mar. Moniley Murray They had three children: Lester Brewer, Florence Brewer Page, and J.C. Brewer.

2. Isadora "Dora" Brewer, b. 19 Aug 1889 d. Oct. 17, 1966 buried Marietta Cem, Robeson Co, NC, m. Oliver Watts. They had two daughters: Stella Watts Hayes (bur Marietta Cem, Robeson Co, NC ) & Ethel Watts.

3. Ben Tillman Brewer, b.7 Oct 1892 d.10 Nov 1894, buried Joel bur. Joel B. Hayes Cemetery

4. Magnolia "Nolie" Brewer, b. 12 Aug 1897 d. 19 Sep 1944, buried Neil Miller Cemetery, Hwy 9 near Lake View, m. Will Miller. No further data.

Sources for the family of John M. and Melvina Brewer include: Marion County census records, and deeds, especially those concerning heirs of Asa L. Brewer; tombstones; Bible record of John M. Brewer, in possession of Eutha Alford Brewer of Lake View (widow of John M. Brewer's grandson); "Minutes of Bear SWamp Baptist Church" by Betty Bryant Overturf, interviews with Florence Brewer Page, with Vida Caroline Cook & with Eutha Alford Brewer; “The History of Bear Swamp Baptist Church 1785-1985” by Betty Bryant Overturf.

Melvina had siblings, the children of Ducery and Ada Conner/Connor:

- Coleman Conner, b. c1850

- Frances Fanny Conner, b. c1852, m. R. R. Rowell (his second wife), son Harison Rowell age 1 in 1880- census.

- Eliza Conner, b. c1854

- Alligood Conner, b. c1859

- Marvin Conner, b. c1861

- Cornelius "Dock" Conner, b. c1868

I have found no further records of these children in Marion County, possibly they moved to Horry County by the time of the 1880 census.

There is a loose leaf binder at the Marion County Archives that contains a compilation of the Conner/Connor family research of Gretchen Rowell Clark who descended from Ducery and Ada Connor/Conner.
