Vivian Leonard Bass married November 28, 1926 in Lordsburg, Hidalgo County, New Mexico to Marjorie Gertrude McDonald born January 7, 1908 in Douglas, Cochise County, Arizona and died July 20, 1972 in Douglas, Cochise County, Arizona. After the death of her husband, she remarried to Charles Rollin Johnson.

Marjorie Gertrude McDonald Bass Johnson was the daughter of Davis (1877-1945) and his second wife, Fannie Elizabeth Bowman McDonald (1883-1938), and Marjorie Gertrude McDonald Bass Johnson was the granddaughter of Lewis Martin and Hesterann Elizabeth Taylor McDonald,Sr.
Davis McDonald's first wife was Sophrona Lutheria (Lou) Taylor daughter of John Wesley and Permelia Jane Banta Taylor.

Vivian L. Bass, aged 30, resident of the border country between Guadalupe and Cloverdale, New Mexico, was thrown from a horse while riding yesterday and instantly killed when his head struck on a rock. The accident happened just east of the Arizona line and on the New Mexico side but, the district isolated from New Mexico officials, relatives of the unfortunate cattleman came to Douglas and asked Justice of the Peace W.C. Jack, in his capacity as coroner, to examine into the cause of death and issued the death certificate.

Judge Jack made a hurried trip to the scene of the tragedy and returned late last evening to report he had found no evidence of any nature indicating foul play and had issued the certificate showing death was accidental.

Bass is survived by his wife, one small daughter and by his father-in-law, Davis McDonald of Guadalupe. Other relatives reside in the Animas Valley of New Mexico.

An elder brother, C.L. Bass, resident of Douglas left yesterday to make the arrangements for the funeral. Porter and Ames Mortuary took charge of the body. The funeral will be held from Cloverdale this afternoon. A definite hour had not been set late last night but members of the family said they planned to hold the service at 3 o'clock. Interment will be made in the cemetery there.

Vivian Bass was a cattleman and rancher. He was noted for his horsemanship and was widely known among cowboys and cattlemen of New Mexico, Arizona and Sonora. He came to his death in a type of accident that has, in the past few years claimed a number of cattlemen and riders of the Guadalupe and Cloverdale sections.

Vivian Leonard Bass was born at Carlsbad, New Mexico, Jan. 3, 1901, and has resided near Cloverdale since 1918. Married Miss Marjorie McDonald, Nov. 28, 1926.

He was thrown from a horse near his ranch home Dec. 11 and a few hours later was found dead. He leaves his widow, baby girl, Lora Evelyn, his mother, Mrs. Susan I. Bass, brothers and sisters as follows: Jack Bass, of Mule Creek, New Mexico; Holland Bass, Winkleman, Arizona; Fred Bass, Cloverdale, Clyde Bass, Douglas; Mrs. W. R. Shattuck, El Paso Gap, New Mexico; Mrs. J.W. Stewart, Cloverdale; Mrs. Iva Rather, Duran, New Mexico; Mrs. Tom Pendleton, Cloverdale.

Those who knew Vivian best, knew best his true sterling worth. The tender love and care he bore his wife and baby; the devoted love he had for his widowed mother tell of his great heart. His genial smile and sunshiny nature made many friends who will miss him sadly.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wilkinson, of Lordsburg and Mr. Taylor at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Pendleton last Sunday, with burial in the Cloverdale cemetery.
