Eldridge was a leader in the Folsom State Prison break on July 27, 1903, being part of a group of 13 convicts who rushed the captain's office, captured the warden, captain, and several guards, then made their escape across Mormon Island into the mountains. Eldridge was captured in Seattle a year later and brought to trial where he was convicted of the murder of Guard William Cotter. Before his execution on the gallows, he said he was ready to die.
