Stephen Kyle Walp, 46, of Deputy, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at University Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

He was born March 28, 1967, in Seymour, to Donald and Sondra Case Walp Jr. He was a 1985 graduate of Jennings County High School and attended Purdue University for one year. He was the owner and operator of Walp Racing. He also worked as a truck driver for Garry's Trucking in Lexington for six months. He worked on the highway crew for the Madison Street Department for five years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing guitar, driving and building race cars, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Tracie Taylor Walp, whom he married Feb. 17, 2001; two sons, Chase Hatton of Deputy and Casey Nietzel of North Vernon; two daughters, Kayla Taylor and Shelby Walp, both of North Vernon; his parents of Paris, Ind.; two brothers, Shannon Walp of Paris Crossing and Douglas Kidwell of Blocher; one sister, Christina Salsman of North Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon. Burial will be in the Carmel Cemetery in Deputy.

Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 2 p.m. until the service.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations towards funeral expenses. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.
