Newalla resident Don L. White, 68, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, in Newalla.
He was born Oct. 8, 1939, in Cleveland County, Okla., to Thomas and Minnie (Little Creek) White.
Don had lived most of his life in Cleveland County. He also lived a short time in Bakersfield, Calif.,
He attended Stella Schools and served in the U.S. Army.
He did many types of contract construction work with the tribe. Don also worked in maintenance at the Resource Center. He taught the Absentee Shawnee Native American language at the Cultural Preservation Center.
Don was a member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe. He was currently on the Tribal Elders Counsel and was the spokesperson for traditional ceremonies and other tribal functions.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Neldean Little Charley, Virginia White and Louella Blanchard; one niece and one nephew.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Clellen Cody of Newalla; one granddaughter, Kristen Cody of Newalla; one grandson, Dakoda Cody of Newalla; two sisters, Edith Goodman and Ruth Blanchard, both of Newalla; and numerous friends and other family members.
Graveside service will be Friday morning at the White Family Cemetery with George Blanchard officiating.
