McGANNEY, NED Marysville Appeal - 11/26/1918, p1 - Smartsville Boy Makes Supreme Sacrifice - Mrs. John Cramsie of Smartsville and Mrs. E. Conrath of Marysville have received word of the death in France of their nephew, Ned McGanney, 27 years of age, and well known in Yuba County. - McGanney resided with Mrs. Cramsie when he enlisted in 1917. He was killed in action on October 6th, according to word received by his relatives. Beside his mother, Mrs. Annie McGanney, of San Francisco, he leaves two sisters and two brothers, all residents of San Francisco.
He died in the battle of Argonne; was said to be buried on the battlefield; but there is a cross for him in a large military cemetery of crosses in Meuse-Argonne, France, and he is memorialized in the McGanney family plot in the Smartsville Catholic Cemetery.
